Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Jesus was controversial. Jesus is controversial.
Controversial Christian is a dynamic medium that seeks to challenge conventional norms on what it means to be a Christian in the world today. In essence, we seek to test thinking inside the church and challenge critics outside the church. Christ was extremely critical of the religious leaders of his time on earth and yet showed so much compassion to people with little to no faith to speak of. And yet, Christians seem to have it backwards. Rather than show compassion to skeptics, Christians too often judge and condemn those that do not think, act or believe the way they do. This of course is a broad stereotype, but Christians have once again become much like the religious leaders that Christ called out and condemned for their behavior.
This is a call to Christians to become true Christ followers rather than hypocritical moral zealots. And for those people who claim to have no faith in Christ or even criticize the Christian faith, I hope that this site serves to challenge your thinking and understanding on who Christ is and what following Christ means.
The authors of this blog do not presuppose to “have it all figured out”. Like most anything, salvation through Christ is an ongoing journey and not a end-destination. As Paul writes in Philippians 2:12:
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Controversial Christian is not a political platform. While there are sure to be posts that deal in the realm of politics, Christ if anything was apolitical although he was ultimately crucified through a fallen political system. There is plenty of dialogue and debate about Christians in politics and the politics of Christian churches — topics that we intend not participate in.
Controversial Christian seeks not to overcome the controversy but to endure through it. The goal of this project, as a multi-author outlet that offers more than just on occasional blog post on relevant apprenticeship of Jesus, but becomes a magazine-esque multi-media offering with blogs, podcasts, and video content.
